The MONTELEM Legacy: Over 50 Years of Experience in Ignition Transformer Manufacturing

Quality

When it comes to ignition transformers, experience matters. Insulation quality, long-term reliability, and product compatibility are all essential factors. For decades, MONTELEM Industrie, formerly based in Arcueil, France, developed recognised expertise in this field. In 2022, the company was acquired by Le Cosinus with the objective of preserving this industrial know-how while continuing to support the maintenance needs of gas and oil-fired burners and boilers. Today, the complete range of Ignition Transformers is available on our website.

An Industrial Heritage Dating Back to the 1950s

Originally located in Arcueil, near Paris, MONTELEM later became part of Le Cosinus in Ozoir-la-Ferrière. The company offered a wide range of electrical and electromechanical equipment, specialising in custom-designed solutions and technical support to help customers identify the most appropriate products for their applications.

Le Cosinus has preserved this customer-focused approach, as well as the environmental values promoted by MONTELEM's former Managing Director, Mr. Sola. MONTELEM's quality and environmental policy was built around a clear priority: meeting customer expectations while protecting natural resources and reducing environmental impact. Its objectives focused on both customer service—through standard and custom-built products with short lead times—and environmental responsibility, including reducing energy consumption, improving waste management, enhancing the handling of hazardous materials, and providing better working conditions. MONTELEM often referred to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's famous quote: "We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."

Why Ignition Transformers Are Different

An ignition transformer is not a conventional transformer. Its purpose is to generate a high voltage capable of producing an electrical arc while maintaining reliable operation despite repeated switching cycles and demanding operating conditions such as high temperatures, vibration, moisture, and proximity to metallic components. To ensure long-term durability, ignition transformers typically incorporate robust design features, including: Steel housing and mounting plate Impregnated and encapsulated windings High-frequency (HF) filtering on the high-voltage outputs (depending on the model) An electrostatic shield between the primary and secondary windings These design choices contribute to improved reliability and longer service life in demanding applications.

Following the acquisition of MONTELEM, Le Cosinus has continued to preserve this valuable expertise while supporting the needs of long-standing customers. This includes supplying replacement parts, manufacturing direct replacements, helping customers identify existing transformer references, and producing customised versions whenever installation requirements have evolved. For maintenance applications, compatibility is often essential. When servicing an existing burner or boiler, customers generally require a transformer that is mechanically and electrically identical rather than a similar alternative.

  • Technical Continuity: Proven transformer designs supported by decades of engineering expertise and an extensive historical product database.
  • Maintenance Support: Assistance in identifying existing transformer references—or providing a carefully selected equivalent—using a product label, photographs, dimensions, or electrical specifications.
  • Custom Solutions: When required, Le Cosinus can adapt supply voltage, output current, high-voltage terminals, connectors, or duty cycle to meet the specific requirements of an application.
