Power Supplies

As an electrical transformer manufacturer, Le Cosinus has always produced its own filtered rectified direct current power supplies, also known as AC/DC (alternating current / direct current) power supplies. These power supplies are based on transformers manufactured in our workshops, rectifiers and capacitors for the single-phase versions. Using a proven and highly robust technology, they also offer the advantage of very high insulation capacity, in the range of 2,500 to 4,500V, provided by their isolation transformer, one of the main components.

These power supplies also have the advantage of being easily adaptable to our customers' needs, particularly in terms of input and output voltages and the delivered direct current value, as we control the main component — the electrical transformer.

Another advantage of filtered rectified power supplies is having a lower voltage spike at switch-on compared to switch-mode technology.

It should be noted that the three-phase versions of our rectified power supplies are even more robust, as they do not require capacitors thanks to the three-phase rectifier. The fewer components there are, the lower the risk of failure, and the greater the reliability!

Identified French technical content requiring translationThe standard ripple rate for filtered rectified power supplies is in the order of 5% of the nominal output voltage. But, as always with Le Cosinus, we can adapt our products — whether the delivered power, the input and output voltages, or the ripple rate.

The disadvantage of a filtered rectified power supply is that it is larger and heavier than a switch-mode power supply, and its voltage regulation is less stable (5% ripple rate as standard) than with switch-mode technology.

Switch-mode power supplies are based on electronics and are generally manufactured in low-cost countries highly specialised in mass production of electronic products. They can sometimes prove more fragile, and it is more difficult to obtain non-standard output voltages. Conversely, for standard values in power and voltage, they are often inexpensive.
