Ignition transformers are specialised transformers designed to generate high voltages. Voltages typically range from 5,000V to 10,000V, in order to create an electric arc to ignite a gas or oil boiler. This works on the same principle as a spark plug in petrol engines.
Since the requirement is to achieve a high voltage to generate an electric arc, a high current is not necessary. A current, typically in the order of a few tens of milliamperes, is sufficient. This is why most of our transformers have power ratings of a few hundred VA and are exclusively single-phase.
There are many types of ignition transformers. Single-secondary ignition transformers are typically used for gas boilers, while dual-secondary ignition transformers are typically used for oil or heating oil boilers. The form factors are standardised and specific to each boiler type. We offer here the most common versions, but please feel free to contact us if you require a specific reference.
