Single-phase isolation transformers are typically used in low-power installations or inside electrical cabinets, thanks to their high electrical insulation capacity, which separates networks to secure installations, equipment and users. They can also be used as step-down or step-up transformers. The most common voltages today are 230V, 400V or 24V in professional environments.
Depending on the environment where the single-phase transformer will be installed, the appropriate protection rating must be selected. If the transformer is installed in a secure cabinet, it can be IP00 and therefore without an enclosure. In a technical room, a minimum IP21 protective enclosure is required to protect people. In environments subject to water splashes, a higher protection rating such as IP54 should be considered.
